China: Your Pathway to Canada

Welcome to our comprehensive guide tailored specifically for Chinese nationals who wish to migrate to Canada. We provide you with all the necessary information to navigate through the different visa options available, along with specific requirements and procedures.

Temporary Resident Visa (Visitor Visa)

For Chinese nationals planning a short-term visit to Canada, whether for tourism, business meetings, or visiting loved ones, a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is required. Also known as a Visitor Visa, this permits the holder to stay in Canada for a duration of up to six months.

The process involves demonstrating your intention to leave Canada after your visit and proving that you have adequate financial means to support your stay. You will need to provide proof of ties to your home country, such as employment, property, or family, which can compel you to return. You should also be in good health, possess a valid passport, and have no criminal record. It’s important to note that possession of a TRV does not guarantee entry into Canada, as final discretion is at the hands of the immigration officer at the point of entry.

Remember, if your plans change and you wish to extend your stay, you must apply for an extension at least 30 days before your current status expires.

Study Permit & SDS Program:

Chinese students seeking to pursue their studies in Canada may apply for a Study Permit. The process involves obtaining an acceptance letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada and proving that you have enough funds to pay for your tuition fees, living expenses, and return transportation.

Additionally, Canada has a streamlined application process for students from China, known as the Student Direct Stream (SDS). This expedited process allows for faster processing times, but it does come with additional requirements. Students must pay their tuition for the first year in advance and have a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of CAD $10,000. They also need to undergo a medical exam before applying and achieve a higher IELTS score (minimum of 6.0 in each skill).

Work Permit:

Chinese nationals wishing to work in Canada have various options, including temporary work permits, which require a confirmed job offer and a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), and the open work permits for certain categories of applicants. Note that specific eligibility criteria must be met in each case.

Express Entry:

Chinese nationals seeking permanent residency in Canada can consider the Express Entry system. This points-based immigration system allows skilled workers from around the world to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence (PR). It encompasses several immigration programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Applicants are assessed based on factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency in English or French, and adaptability. The highest-ranking candidates in the Express Entry pool are invited to apply for PR through regular draws.

It’s important to note that having a job offer from a Canadian employer or a nomination from a province can significantly increase your chances of receiving an invitation. However, these are not mandatory for the FSWP and CEC.

Chinese nationals must also ensure their educational credentials are assessed by a designated organization to demonstrate that it’s equivalent to Canadian standards. They should also take a language test approved by IRCC (IELTS for English or TEF for French) to prove their language proficiency.

Family Sponsorship:

Chinese nationals who have family members already residing in Canada may consider applying for residency through the family sponsorship program. This program allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, dependent children, parents, or grandparents for permanent residency.

Remember, each program has its unique requirements and processes. At Pathway2Canada, our dedicated and multicultural team is ready to guide you through these steps, providing you with a tailored strategy for your journey to Canada.
